What a Meth House looks like...

So, this is the meth house I told you about in an entry a while back. Just click on it to see inside the tiny circle I drew. That would be a chemical waste warning on the door. There was one on the window but it has since been removed.

Hi Moo-Me (well, you did ask for it! :-p Just kidding!)

My political philosophy runs along the lines of "if you are an adult and you wish to burn holes in your brain, so long as you don't violate the rights of others - you're free to turn your brain to liquid".

Meaning (for example) - if I'm sitting around peacefully killing brain/liver cells by drinking beer, I ought to be able to do so, right? After all, it is legal in our society.

Now if I'm peaceably drinking beer, and then decide to go for a drive and while on that drive I proceed to hit someone - society judges me wrong! As they should!! For I have violated the rights of another. I must be held responsible for my actions. "Freedom" comes with "responsibility".

I'm certainly not trying to be insensitive - I do recognize and acknowledge that drug abuse is a problem.

Alcohol kills over 40,000 Americans - and it's a legal drug. Smoking causes lung cancer and it's a legal drug. Americans in general are the most "medicated" group of folks on the planet - heck, we even prescribe "legal speed" (Adderall anyone?) to tots and teens... but the same drug (Amphetamines) taken by an adult "without a prescription" is a crime?

I'm not trying to be deliberately provocative (or am I? You decide)- but the issue on hand isn't the "drug in question" but the nature of the "drug prohibition argument" itself.

LOL Spook, you crack me up.

I should say this. For the most part, I totally agree with you. I've seen addiction and while it pisses me off, it usually does so when children are involved.

That is why this meth house bothered me so much. As you know the chemicals are flammable, which is bad enough. This house is across the street from a family with children. But the worst part is they removed a child from this household when they got busted (he was a toddler).

I say do what you want. But I believe you lose your right to make decisions regarding what you want to do when you place a child in harms way.

As you put it so eloquently. Freedom comes with responsiblity. I just happened to snap this pic the other day and thought I'd blog it.

I really need to get out more lol!

I believe you lose your right to make decisions regarding what you want to do when your place ANYONE (not just a child) in harm's way. Meth houses are dangerous to the entire neighborhood.

What is interesting here is that people often think these drug houses are some seedy, run-down home in a nasty area. Not always so. The home you photographed looks like it could be on any street in any decent neighborhood. You just never know.
