If I think one of my children has "taken a dump", I do the butt sniff. I don't even try to deny it anymore. I'm so shameless now I'll even do the sniff test in front of other people.
Personally, I'm a fan of this method. The diaper test has ended badly for me in the past. I'd rather sniff poo than have it on my finger from a diaper check gone wrong.

geez, this must be one of those 'joys of parenthood' ya don't think about until you're in the midst of it...hmm...
LOL! Actually, I didn't think alot about it myself but I recently saw an article about parenting and it was mentioned and I realized I'm guilty of it.
I do this all of the time. I have no shame. It's the best way to figure it out!
You should see our playgroup too. When someone's kid stinks, everyone does the smell test on their kid - so 8 or 10 moms are all picking up their potential stinkers at the same time. Good times, I tell ya.
Oh I do the same thing. My mom always laughs, but I don't care what people think. I don't care where we're at, if I'm not sure, I'll lift Hailey high into the air, put her butt in my face and sniff. At which point she exclaims "pooey!"
